Automakers have found a myriad of ways to advertise their vehicles over the years, and now innovative American auto brand Chrysler is broadening its appeal as well. By partnering with the recently-opened Broadway show "Motown: the Musical," Chrysler will receive advertising in the form of showroom traffic. The company has also created a new television advertisement around the partnership which stars Motown founder and music producer Berry Gordy. There's even a special vehicle to celebrate the partnership: a white Chrysler 300 "Motown Edition."

So far, reviews of the show are mixed, but any association with popular music from such stars as Smokey Robinson and Diana Ross, should stay in the limelight for quite some time. It does seem strange, however, that Chrysler would sponsor a show that isn't targeted at its primary audience of young car buyers. After all, the music is up to 50 years old, so many young people may not be very familiar with it.

Motown is usually associated with the Baby Boom generation, which today means their grandparents. We'll have to see exactly what kind of traffic the Chrysler brand will see from this new venture.
